Divisional Controller
[Company] is an aboriginal company that was formed as the result of a partnership between [Company] and [Company]. This company was established to provide in-demand, high quality, and competitively priced heavy construction and mining work in the Ft. McMurray area.
 
Launched in 2003, [Company] will take advantage of the synergies between North American and Fort McKay Construction Ltd, which is owned by the Ft. McKay band. Each organization has a proud history working in oil sands, plants and mines in Ft. McMurray - independently, and together. By combining resources, [Company] is poised to take advantage of both long and short-term business opportunities throughout the region.

[Company] is currently seeking a Divisional Controller for its Edmonton Location.
 
Accountabilities:
  • Prepare and execute the analysis and reporting of project financial information in accordance with all accounting regulations (GAAP and SOP 81.1).
  • Communicate and provide financial support through regular site visits.
  • Represent assigned division in all financial matters.
  • Coordinate and direct the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts for division.
  • Institute and maintain planning and control procedures including cost accounting, general accounting and budgetary controls within business unit.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Conduct month end activities including project forecasting, cost accruals, revenue recognition, WIP updates and variance analysis for balance sheet and P&L. 
  • Ensure thorough understanding of ad hoc, and continuously be prepared to respond to queries from all levels within the company, including details on specific projects, variance investigation and analysis, and contract close out reconciliations.
  • Support operations by providing advice and input to project financial planning, monitoring and adjustment activities.
  • Review commercial and other terms on project contracts.
  • Ensure accuracy in project master file set up.
  • Maintain external audit ready accounting records for individual projects and equipment.
  • Support operations in the preparation of the annual operating and capital budgets.
  • Maintain accounting books and records for the JV.
  • Conduct periodic site visits in order to provide support and ensure compliance of all financial policies and procedures.
  • Support Vice President and General Manager using the COSO internal control framework by assisting with the documentation of controls and the on-going monitoring to ensure the key controls are operating effectively.
  • Ensure division is consistent with the entity level controls (e.g. Ethics Policy, Disclosure Policy).
  • Ensure compliance with JV contractual requirements financial reporting and analysis
Work experience Requirements:
  • Minimum five years experience within Finance.
  • Industrial construction and/or mining industry experience preferred.
Education Requirements:
  • Related Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience related to Finance.
  • CA, CMA, or CGA designation preferred.
