Senior Tailings Engineer

As a key member of the Tailings Cross Functional Team (CFT), the successful candidate will work within a fast paced multi-disciplinary environment and play a major role in planning the deposition and movement of slurried sands, fines, and water within the oil sands mining operation.
Reporting to the Manager of Tailings Engineering, key responsibilities include executing the Tailings Business Plan by initiating project changes, implementing new processes, and working closely with other business units to ensure short and long term tailings objectives are met in accordance to [Company]’s overall goals.
Key Accountabilities:
- Manage the execution of the Tailings Business Plan by taking ownership of the scoping, design and commissioning of tailings growth and sustaining projects on behalf of the tailings Cross Functional Team (CFT)
- Liaise with internal employees in various business units such as operations, extractions, sustaining projects, and major projects
- Develop and maintain the tailings financial Long Range Plan (LRP) to ensure consistency with the Tailings Business Plan
- Clear understanding of the Tailings Business Plan and how changes impact the overall company objectives
- Become fluent in [Company]’s Implementation Model (SPIM) and other areas of project management
- Provide technical mentorship and peer reviews to junior staff members
- Participate in [Company] growth projects and coordinate tailings planning support for project applications
Qualification Requirements:
- Engineering degree (P.Eng) in Mining Engineering preferred however, candidates with degrees in Civil, Geological, Geotechnical, and Process Engineering will also be considered.
- Minimum 5 years Mine Planning experience
- Broad range experience in the mining industry including a multidisciplinary background in reclamation, geotechnical, civil, and process engineering
- Proven track record in costing scoping-level tailings
- Superior change management skills including the ability to influence individuals in various business units to accept proposed changes
- Broad understanding of short term and long term tailings business would be desirable but not mandatory
- Experience with Mine planning software and/or project management experience is considered a strong asset but not essential
