Intermediate Cost Analyst

POSITION OUTLINE:
Reporting to the Manager, In Situ Accounting, the successful candidate will assist in maintaining internal control processes and will perform monthly cost accounting duties in support of the MacKay River in situ operation. This position acts as point of contact onsite for accounting and budget issues. The suitable candidate will be responsible for accurate and timely booking of operating costs and determination of the monthly operating accruals. This position will also provide variance analysis and monthly stewardship of operating costs and operational performance and participate in the creation of the annual detail operating budget.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Responsible for accurate and timely booking of operating costs, including invoice payment and coding.
- Responsible for calculation of monthly operating accrual at activity (account) level.
- Ensure proper cost control processes are in place and followed.
- Provide detail variance explanation and monthly stewardship of all operating costs.
- Work with Sr. Property Analyst (in Calgary) to ensure monthly results recorded and reported correctly in financial statements and to Operations Management.
- Act as accounting lead in assembling detail costs forecasts and budget numbers with Operations.
- Project work as assigned by Operations Management or Accounting Manager.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Oil and gas accounting and operations experience or knowledge
- Business / Accounting Degree or Diploma or working towards accounting designation
- Proficient in cost accounting and cost control
- Experience in, or knowledge of stewardship and budgeting
- Excellent computer skills, including Excel, SAP
- Self managed, must have ability to work as independent accountant on site
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
- Non-authoritative leadership skills in dealing with plant and project stakeholders
- Ability to work in team environment
- This is a developmental position best suited for a highly motivated individual

- This position is located at the MacKay River Plant, 40 km NW of Fort McMurray.
- Requires periodic travel to/from Calgary.
