Senior Thermal Geologist

[Company] is the only junior oil sands company pursuing a commercial in situ project  in the established Cold Lake area of Alberta, and is one of the largest resource holders in the emerging Grosmont carbonate trend, next to Shell and Husky. With an independent evaluation of 2.16 billion barrels of recoverable resources, and sufficient working capital in place to fund our next set of milestones, [Company] is hiring to help us maximize the value of these assets.

Reporting to the Manager, Geosciences the Senior Thermal Geologist will be a member of the integrated subsurface team responsible for the geologic understanding of the clastic reservoirs that are being explored, appraised, and developed by [Company] Specifically, this individual will be the Senior Geologist for the development of the Cretaceous-aged, bitumen-saturated, Cold Lake Taiga reservoir. 
 
Working out of our head office located in the heart of Kensington, your key responsibilities will include:
  • Geologic mapping of the Clearwater and Lower Grand Rapids Formation in the  Cold Lake region based on petrophysical logs and core analysis.
  • Creation of a depositional model for the Taiga Clearwater and Lower Grand Rapids that is built upon detailed core description, petrography, core analysis and a robust facies model.
  • Maintenance and new model construction of the Petrel 3D geostatiscal model of the Taiga reservoirs.
  • Planning the well placement and design for Taiga thermal development with the assistance of the Operations Geologist and the Reservoir Engineers.
  • Assisting the Reservoir Engineering team in the design and interpretation of laboratory studies related to the Taiga thermal development process.
  • Additional geologic mapping to support well placement and scheme? approvals for brackish water supply, salt cavern development, and water disposal related to the Taiga Project.
  • Co-ordination of consultant activity related to seismic interpretation, core descriptions, petrography and special studies in the [Company] clastic reservoirs.
  • Supporting the Geoscience Manager and President in exploration and? property assessments of clastic reservoirs.
  • Supporting carbonate geologic projects as required.
To be a preferred candidate you will have a Masters or PhD degree in Science with a major in Geology combined with 10-15 years experience as a petroleum geologist.  In addition to a proven history of working well with integrated teams and excellent verbal and written communication skills you will have:
  • Expertise with core analysis, facies description, and the development of a geologic model for clastic reservoirs.
  • Experience with in situ thermal development of bitumen-saturated reservoirs
  • Experience with 3D static modelling (Petrel and/or GoCAD).
  • Experience with mapping software (GeoScout and/or Accumap).
