Geologist – Research & Development
 
Our client is an integrated oil and gas company with operations within Canada and internationally.  The company currently holds a substantial land base of oil sands leases in Northern Alberta which will result in full field development producing over 200,000 bbl/d.  The Oil sands Pilot is coming on stream in 2010 at 20,000 bbl/d with plans for further expansion, and the current 10,000 bbl/d SAGD facility is on schedule.  The second Oil sands Project is in the planning phase for developing a 40,000 bbl/d commercial plant. 
 
The organization is seeking a Geologist to join their Research and Development team. Reporting Structure: 
This position will report to the Research and Development Manager.
 
Responsibilities/Accountabilities: 
  • Sedimentological studies including core description work.
  • Building conceptual geological models.
  • 3D-modeling of sedimentary facies.
  • Petrophysical properties upscaling and modeling.
  • Assist and support G&G Asset Team with leading edge geological methods.
Skills/Qualifications: 
  • Preferably a PhD in Geology with a focus in one of the above listed areas (see responsibilities).
  • 5 to 10 years experience.
  • Experience in oil sand geological challenges.
  • Ability to work in multi-disciplinary team in close cooperation with geophysicists, reservoir engineers and petrophysicists.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-starter with the ability to handle multiple projects and priorities.
