Senior Drilling Engineer
About the Job
Our client is undergoing organizational change, remains one of Canada's largest oil and gas companies with businesses spanning both the upstream and downstream sectors will be in need for Drilling Engineers.
 
Based in Calgary and reporting to the Engineering Drilling Lead, the successful candidate will be a member of a team of engineers supporting multi-disciplinary asset teams. Responsibilities broadly include the technical performance of drilling operations and alignment with the goals of business partners. Drilling projects may be located throughout Western Canada.
 
Accountabilities:
  • Develop high quality project plans that include cost estimates, time schedules and project plan for drilling wells in depths ranging from 500m to 5,500 m. These include overpressure wells, deviated, horizontal and SAGD applications
  • Ensure drilling project alignment with corporate Total Loss Management policies
  • Work with Drilling Supervisor for timely resolution of planning and operational issues
  • Ensure integration of asset team into the development and execution of drilling projects
  • Special projects include engineering and Life Cycle Value Assessment studies on technical issues and submissions and occasional work on industry working committees
  • Ensure compliance with provincial and federal well licensing agency requirements; work with agencies to communicate and resolve any issues or enforcement actions that arise
  • Project size can range from $5MM - $80MM per project
Functional/Technical Skills:
  • Undergraduate degree in Engineering with 2 - 5 years of drilling experience
  • The successful candidate has been exposed to increasing responsibility in drilling engineering and/or operations with a recognized service or operating company known for its training and responsible operating practices
  • Knowledgeable in Environment, Health and Safety - Emergency and Oil Spill Response
  • Versed in Western Canada Regulatory guidelines, and licensing requirements
  • Knowledgeable in Quality Assurance / Quality Control for drilling and completion operations, and drilling Well Design and operations
  • Experience in standard drilling techniques & directional &/or horizontal drilling an asset
Requirement Note:  
  • Creative thinker, willing to innovate and continually focus on operational efficiencies
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in order to communicate at all levels and work   well in a team environment
  • Team player, able to work effectively with a variety of engineering, operations, geological staff and alliance representatives in a seamless multi-disciplinary environment
  • Well developed project management skills focused on cost & time saving improvements
  • Short-term travel to individual drilling operations as required throughout Western Canada.
Our client offers a very attractive total compensation and benefit package. Salary will be commensurate with the skill level and experience of the successful candidate.
