Senior Reservoir Engineer
Our client is an integrated oil and gas company with operations in more than 40 countries. They have over 1,100 square kilometers of oil sands leases in Northern Alberta which will result in full field development producing over 200,000 bbl/d which consists of 2 separate projects. Project 1 is coming on stream in 2010 at 20,000 bbl/d with plans for further expansion and Project 2 is in the planning phase of developing a 40,000 bbl/d commercial development.
 
A demonstration project, a 10,000 bbl/d SAGD facility NW of Conklin, Alberta, is on schedule.
 
Their activities also include production offshore Newfoundland and Labrador.
 
Accountabilities
The Senior Reservoir Engineer will report to the Subsurface Engineering Team Leader and be responsible for reservoir activities on company operated properties to optimize profitability of Project 1.  As assigned from time to time but initially to:
  • Contribute to the success of projects by working effectively in a team environment with Geology, Geophysics and other Engineering disciplines.
  • Conduct numerical modeling, subsurface studies and exploitation planning as required and according to job assignments.
  • Fully support the water management team acting as key contact and subsurface engineering representative for Project 1 source and disposal well planning, including test design and liaison with regulatory agencies as required.
  • Generate production forecasts using reservoir simulation, production analysis and other reservoir engineering techniques.
  • Analyze subsurface and surface field data to obtain key reservoir/well performance parameters.
  • Perform regional studies (including analyzing competitor public data) to improve understanding of the SAGD process.
  • Generate risked OBIP, production profiles, recoverable volumes for the project. 
  • Support regulatory processes including technical justifications to the regulator and offsetting operators.
 
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering. A Masters of Science in Engineering would be an asset.
  • APEGGA membership (P.Eng designation) is required.
  • 10 years experience in reservoir engineering and related experience working within an integrated team including Geology, Geophysics and other Engineering disciplines.
  • Exposure to the SAGD development process is required.
  • Reservoir experience in thermal recovery of bitumen is required.
  • Exposure to hybrid-SAGD processes and/or Gas-Over-Bitumen is preferred.
  • Experience with STARS, Exotherm or Eclipse Thermal simulation is required.
  • The candidate must exhibit a pragmatic approach and strong subsurface technical management skills.   It will be necessary for the candidate on occasion to operate under varying timelines and generate recommendations often using poor quality, conflicting, and/or non-existent data.
  • The candidate must be a self-starter and be able to handle multiple projects at multiple phases, concurrently.
