Geological Technician / Technologist (Tailings)

Primary Responsibilities
This position is responsible for learning and performing routine technical and operational duties in support of tailings pond research and development, extraction, and environmental reclamation needs as required.
Specific responsibilities
Responsibilities include but are not limited to: pond sampling and sounding, insitu testing, instrumentation installations, mudline and pond elevation surveys, laboratory testing, pilot plant operations, field lab testing of pipeline product and diluents; wetlands sampling, flow monitoring, water supply installations, visual core descriptions, core handling, sampling and receiving. This position involves frequently working from a boat or barge.
Reporting to Supervisor/ Manager
Skills
- A post secondary education in geological technology, environmental technology, or a related discipline
- Previous working experience in the field is an asset
- A valid CSTS certificate
- Familiar and comfortable with using personal protective equipment
- Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with a diverse team of coworkers, contractors, and internal/external customers
- Excellent communication skills and multi-tasking capabilities.
- Some opportunities require lifting, and a high degree of mobility to perform essential functions of the job.
