[Location]  is Canada's newest major oilsands development and the first to integrate in-situ Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD) technology with onsite upgrading on a large scale. With input capacity of 70,000 barrels per day of bitumen, [Location]  is the largest SAGD facility in the world. The facility also employs a unique and proprietary upgrading solution that results in production of a Premium Synthetic Crude (PSCTM) oil that is superior to any other produced from the Canadian oilsands - at a distinct cost advantage over other operations.
 
[Location]  is located approximately 40 km southeast of Fort McMurray, in the Athabasca oilsands of northeastern Alberta. The lease is estimated to hold approximately six billion barrels of bitumen. As operator, [Company]  is currently focused on ramping up production to reach an output capacity of 60,000 barrels per day of PSCTM.

Position Overview
This Automation Information Systems Administrator position is accountable for the configuration, software administration, troubleshooting, maintenance, system upgrades and in general the management of the network and database of the existing Automation Information Systems layer and for the development and implementation of new systems and applications. Also liaise between IT and Process Automation for application specific hardware and software issues and end user training and support.
 
Automation Information Systems include, but not limited to:
  • RTH (Real Time Data Historian)
  • PIMS (Plant Information Management System)
  • MMS (Machinery Health Monitoring System)
  • CEMS (Continuous Emissions Monitoring System)
  • Alarm Historian Future
  • AMS (Asset Management System)
  • PMS (Production Management System) Future
  • Other future Key Performance Indicators systems
 
This position is also accountable for system security security and firewall management, as well as the provision of daily operational support to the [Location] users. This is done by constantly being aware of the systems performance and user's needs.
 
The Information Systems Administrator has the responsibility of promoting and justifying those projects which improve decision making or are seen to have high economic viability. This requires an in depth understanding of the complexity of the total process, the user's needs and the Information and Process Automation System layers. 
 
Job Duties/Responsibilities 
 
Duties
  • Provide specialized day to day and long range network system administration services.
  • Maximize the availability and efficient utilization of information systems.
  • Ensure the reliable operation of the information system infrastructure. Continuously evaluate the existing information systems for reliability of control and effectiveness.
  • Research and investigate current information systems technology and applications, and make recommendations on how they may be applied to benefit the profitability of [Location].
  • Establish administration procedures (security, backup, software changes, database administration, etc) for information systems and ensure that procedures are adhered to by technicians and end users.
  • Enhance and maintain existing software and system hardware integrity to reflect modifications and complex configuration of existing systems. Document all changes, working with the Drafting and Document Control group.
  • Provide information systems software applications documentation and provide training support on the use of control systems applications software packages.
  • Research, troubleshoot and resolve systems issues and ensure all problems are resolved in a timely manner.
  • Specify hardware, software and application functionality.
  • Develop detailed project scope, cost estimates and benefits to justify information systems projects, secure funding. Participate in planning, implement and manage budget and schedule of justified projects.
  • Oversee and ensure that contractors assigned to your responsibility meet quality, cost and schedule targets.
  • Assist users in issues relative to information systems.
  • Serve as the technical expert for the [Location] site in the fields of information systems, and provide mentorship and guidance for less experienced personnel.
  • Keep well informed of the latest technological developments relating to information systems so as [Location] can take advantage of the best technology.
 
Education/Experience 
  • Bachelor's degree in Systems, Computer, Electrical Engineering or Applied Science or its equivalent, with more than 10 years of support-development and/or design experience from the graduation level either as client, consultant or contractor.
  • 5+ years plant site experience as an Information Systems Administrator in a continuous process facility.
  • 10 years experience in automation systems.
  • Versed in network administration, database technology, systems security and demilitarized zone (DMZ).
  • Versed in current industry standards and recommended practices and a practical sense in applying such references.
  • Strong organization planning and new infrastructure development skills.
  • Must have strong MS Office skills (Word, Power Point, Excel, Access & Outlook);
  • Professional written and verbal communication.
  • Experience with the design and implementation of ISA-SP99 (Security for Industrial Automation and Control Systems).
  • Prior experience with Delta V DCS, Foundation Fieldbus as well as hydrocarbon process facilities will be considered an asset.
