[Location] is Canada's newest major oilsands development and the first to integrate in-situ Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD) technology with onsite upgrading on a large scale. With input capacity of 70,000 barrels per day of bitumen, [Location] is the largest SAGD facility in the world. The facility also employs a unique and proprietary upgrading solution that results in production of a Premium Synthetic Crude (PSCTM) oil that is superior to any other produced from the Canadian oilsands - at a distinct cost advantage over other operations.
[Location] is located approximately 40 km southeast of Fort McMurray, in the Athabasca oilsands of northeastern Alberta. The lease is estimated to hold approximately six billion barrels of bitumen. Position Overview
This Process Automation Systems Administrator position is accountable for the software administration, troubleshooting, maintenance, development, upgrades and in general the management of the network and database of the existing and future systems in the Process Automation layer. It also includes maintenance of the Delta V hardware and support to the Instrumentation Maintenance Department in the hardware maintenance of the rest of above mentioned systems.
The Process Automation Systems Administrator liaises with Information System layer administrator and field instrumentation personnel for application specific hardware and software issues and for end user training and support.
Process Automation Systems layer includes, but not limited to:
- Delta V DCS System
- Delta V SIS System
- Bently Nevada Monitoring Systems
- Compressor Controls Monitoring Systems
- PLC Network
- Fire & Gas System
- DMZ firewall
- OPC server
- Burner Management Systems (BMS)
- CEMS (Continuous Emissions Monitoring)
- Mark 6, turbine control system
This position works with DCS Specialists to ensure timely execution of activities. It reports to the Process Automation Supervisor in the Technical Services Department.
Job Duties/Responsibilities
Duties
- Software and hardware support services for DeltaV Control Systems.
- Software support services for rest of the Systems.
- Technical support and service for Foundation Fieldbus, DeviceNet, and AMS.
- Develop DeltaV modules template library and dynamo sets.
- Configure DeltaV control modules and process graphics.
- Configure and maintain the OLE for Process Control (OPC) server.
- Commissioning and startup support.
- Install new DeltaV network system components.
- Perform Anti-virus, Password and Network Security.
- Perform hardware and software upgrades, backups, restore procedures and documentation for disaster recovery, software changes, database and process historian administration
- Configure and maintain remote access server
- Manage and maintain automation network firewalls between the Automation Network and the Process Control DMZ
- Liaise with the Information Systems Administrator for areas of interface between the networks.
- Provide support and oversight of the operations training simulator
- Interface with third-party vendors.
- Liaise with instrumentation personnel for issues relating field instrumentation and systems other than Delta V.
- Ensure the reliable operation of the process control system infrastructure. Continuously evaluate the existing systems for reliability and effectiveness.
- Research and investigate current process control systems technology and applications, and make recommendations on how they may be applied to benefit the profitability of [Location] .
- Provide documentation and training support to the Automation and Maintenance personnel.
- Research, troubleshoot and resolve systems issues and ensure all problems are resolved in a timely manner.
- Specify hardware, software and application functionality.
- Develop detailed project scope, cost estimates and benefits to justify process control systems projects, secure funding. Participate in planning, implement and manage budget and schedule of justified projects.
- Oversee and ensure that contractors assigned to your responsibility meet quality, cost and schedule targets.
- Serve as the technical expert for the [Location] site in the fields of process control systems, and provide mentorship and guidance for less experienced personnel.
- Keep well informed of the latest technological developments relating to process control systems so as [Location] can take advantage of the best technology.
Education/Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Systems, Computer, Electrical Engineering or Applied Science or its equivalent, with more than 10 years of support-development and/or design experience from the graduation level either as client, consultant or contractor.
- Or completion of a 2 year technical program from an accredited institution with more than 15 years of support-development and/or design experience from the graduation level either as client, consultant or contractor.
- 5+ years plant site experience supporting Process Control Systems in a hydrocarbon continuous process facility.
- 10 years experience in automation systems.
- Versed in network administration, database technology, systems security and demilitarized zone (DMZ).
- Versed in current industry standards and recommended practices and a practical sense in applying such references.
- Strong organization planning and new infrastructure development skills.
- Must have strong MS Office skills (Word, Power Point, Excel, Access & Outlook);
- Professional written and verbal communication.
- Experience with the design and implementation of standards for instrumentation, process control and Security for Industrial Automation and Control Systems.
- Prior experience with Delta V DCS, Foundation Fieldbus.
- Prior experience in development or support of above mentioned process control layer systems
