Thermal Project Engineer / Technologist
Our Company plans to develop a number of steam assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) Thermal Projects, and is hiring Project Engineers or Technologists with experience in Field/Pad and Central Plant Facilities.
We are seeking a Thermal Project Engineer/Technologist to assist in the management of all Central Plant Facilities (including the water treatment, steam generation, oil production and storage) Field/Pad Facilities (including source water and disposal water facilities along with wellsite production facilities and any associated pipelines). Other duties will include the co-ordination of external utility requirements such as fuel gas supply, power supply, diluent supply and sales oil pipeline tie-in. In this role you will be accountable for the progression of work with respect to schedule, deliverables and coordination of external engineering discipline interfaces. In this role you will also provide leadership in the areas of quality assurance, engineering, procurement, planning and controls, construction management, pre-commissioning, industrial labour relations and safety to achieve a quality project, while respecting the established budget and schedule objectives.

- Reviewing and providing input/feedback on project schedules and cost estimates
- Reviewing all related Request For Quotes (RFQs) and Tender Requests for procurement of equipment and services
- Supporting the on and off site construction team by providing input into the development of the scope of work for construction services as well as monitoring construction activities
- Managing discipline interfaces on behalf of the Company (Owner) for the assigned project area
- Ensuring Operations input is timely and complete to the satisfaction of the Business Unit and Project leadership
- Resolving complex technical issues that flow across multiple disciplines and ensuring Operations input
- Maintaining good working relationships with the Contractor, Project Team and Business Units
- Providing input into the development of the Project Execution Plan
- Coordinating Management of Change Issues, and managing Cost Control with respect to scope changes
- Coordinating project team to liaise with other department groups ensuring open communication between departments
- Ensuring work is carried out in accordance with contract requirements and all related contract deficiencies are resolved
- Reviewing change orders and providing approval recommendations to Project Managers
- Attending HAZOP’s and other safety review meetings related to area of responsibility
- Completing all Value Improvement Practices (VIPs) related to the area of responsibility
- Ensuring our Technical Support group have provided appropriate level of review
- Providing updates on key activity for Monthly Report
- Providing support for start-up and commissioning activities
Qualifications
Our ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
- An Engineering Degree (BSc or equivalent) in a related field
- A registered technologist with related experience will be considered
- Ten years of Project Engineering experience in the oil and gas industry with previous exposure to upstream field environment. Experience in Thermal Recovery or Heavy Oil is preferred
- Experience working on a Project Management Team would be beneficial
- Five years working in an EPC environment is required
- Understanding of well pad and associated facility design, construction and hand-over is an asset
- Knowledge of engineering contractor processes is required
- Ability to organize and manage complex engineering activities
- Strong interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills to effectively interact with a variety of personnel, and other industry participants, both internal and external to the Company
- Highly-developed project planning and execution skills
- Good computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office products. Experience with Microsoft Project and SAP would be an asset.
This position is based in Calgary, Alberta. Travel will be required approximately 5% of the time.
This position requires the incumbent to operate a vehicle for which a valid driver’s license is required. The final candidate will be required to provide a recent (ie. issued within previous 4 weeks) original driver’s abstract for a 5 year period, prior to starting work with us, for review by our Health and Safety group.
This is a safety sensitive role and as such you will also be required to pass the Company’s pre-employment medical and drug/alcohol assessment requirements.
