Alberta Energy has the opportunity for you to gain first hand, real world experience as an Engineering Intern. In this exciting and challenging internship program, you will undertake a diverse range of projects and responsibilities as you complete job rotations through three different business unit areas: Oil Sands, Oil Development and Geology. A team of knowledgeable and dedicated professionals will offer you guidance and coaching as you work towards expanding and refining your skills as an Engineer.
 
In your role as Engineering Intern, your responsibilities will include: assisting senior engineers with ensuring that all oil sands projects are correctly defined for new approvals or amendments as required under the Oil Sands Regulation; determining if claimed costs are eligible and reasonable; assisting in monitoring of the full life cycle of oil sands project performance and liaising with the Energy Utilities Board regarding scheme approvals and operations. This position will work with technical consultants to investigate mature oilfield development issues and assist in conventional oil project approval for various royalty programs. A key focus for these positions will be to ensure the effective utilization of Crown resources and the optimization of revenues to the Crown, particularly from oil and gas. To accomplish this, you will be tasked with providing technical advice to the department for non-renewable resource delineation and development matters as well as technical evaluation of industry submissions to support various applications made under the Mines and Minerals Act and related regulations.
 
To achieve success in this role, you must possess strong analytical, problem solving and leadership skills as well as the ability to work effectively within a team environment. You should be well organized and have excellent time management/prioritization skills. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential as we place a major emphasis on client service, teamwork and collaboration. The ability to understand and interpret relevant legislation and regulations will be beneficial. In addition a working knowledge of geological and petroleum engineering principles, industry standards, and practices, and knowledge of the stratigraphy of the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin is expected. Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office and various industry applications (GeoScout and Surfer) is essential.
 
Qualifications:
Completion of post secondary education in Engineering (Petroleum, Chemical, Mechanical and Geological disciplines are strongly preferred) within the last two years. The pursuit of an APEGGA membership would be an asset. Related oil and gas experience would be an asset.
 
Note: This is a temporary salaried two year position until March 31, 2010. Final candidates for this position will be asked to undergo a security screening. This competition may be used to fill future vacancies.
