Laboratory Technologist
Description:
Our Client is looking to hire a Laboratory Technologist in Fort McMurray.
 
The incumbent will operate, troubleshoot and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment. Lead by example and mentor other team members in the areas of Safety, Quality, Production, and Cost Effectiveness.
 
Requirements:
 
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Under the direction of the Lab Coordinator:
  • Operate, troubleshoot, and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment. Competent on GC FID and TCD. Familiar on oil sands analysis.
  • Ensure that the routine and analytical requests of the Albian Lab are performed in a cost, responsible and timely manner.
  • Maintain the quality control procedures to ensure accuracy of results from sampling to data transmission.
  • Coordinate samples and request campaigns.
  • Communicate daily with the control room operators to ensure that the most updated information is communicated to the lab. Ensure that strong and effective communications are maintained between operations and the lab.
  • Ensure that inventory and audits are performed such as indicated in the Lab Safety and Quality Manuals.
KEY CHALLENGES:
  • Taking a large group of diverse individuals and developing them into a high performing team.
  • Define, in coordination with team leader, new analysis capabilities.
  • Identifying the technical needs of the lab.
JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
  • Incumbent will have a Bachelor of Science degree or Technical diploma prefers chemistry combined with 2- 5 years related experience.
  • Well Skilled on GC FID and TCD.
  • Or , and Well skilled on IC and ICP.
  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and computer skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a flexible team environment.
  • Have some Quality Assurance knowledge and application.
  • Have safety as a first priority and through his/her actions demonstrate the importance of following the Lab Safety Manual instructions.
  • Can easily apply chemistry skills/knowledge.
CONTACTS:
  • Communicate daily with the control room operators to ensure the most updated information is communicated to the lab.
  • Ensure that strong and effective communications are maintained between operations groups and the lab.
  • Communicate any Quality, Safety, or Environmental issues to lab coordinator or designate.
  • Communicate with other groups that may be working in the lab (i.e. Chemical suppliers or research groups).
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
  • The Laboratory Analyst acts as a mentor and guides other lab technologists and contract staff.
  • Preference will be given to candidates currently living in Fort McMurray
 
This will be a shift position working 4-5-5, rotating a 12 hour shift with days/nights. Transportation is provided and travel allowance to site is available.
 
Candidates for this position must be living in Fort McMurray or moving to the area, with own accomodations.
