Plant Accountant
Job Summary:
A permanent employment opportunity exists for a Plant Accountant, as a member of the Generation Finance team, supporting the Poplar Creek Power Station located at the Suncor Oil Sands site, 25 km north of Fort McMurray.
Reporting to the Financial Leader, you will be part of team providing various financial services to the plant operations team, corporate finance and to our major customer, Suncor Oil Sands.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for month-end activities including preparation and posting of accruals, account reconciliations and preparing invoices.
- Assist in maintaining charging structure in accordance with the O&M Agreement
- Provide financial information and analysis to managers, production area leaders (PALS) and service area leaders (SALS).
- Assist with ad-hoc requests for information from various parties.
- Act as key information source for employees and contractors about TransAlta procedures.
- Maintain and provide input on continuous improvements to processes and procedures.
- Coordinate, prepare and analyze annual budgets, five-year projections and ten-year projections for Suncor.
- Work with other members of the Generation Finance team who are located in other geographical areas including head office in Calgary.
Qualifications:
- Be actively pursuing a professional designation with expected completion within 1 to 2 years or be a recently designated CA, CGA or CMA
- A Bachelor of Commerce degree is required; a 2 year accounting diploma is suitable with the expectation that the successful candidate will work towards completing a business degree
- 3-5 years of accounting experience is required, preferably in an industrial setting
- Demonstrated strength in accounting and analytical skills, including computer-based analysis using databases and spreadsheets
- Experience using Microsoft Office with strong Excel skills
- Ability to create new, comprehensive and possibly unique reports from existing data to respond to changing needs
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Demonstrated strength in communication. interpersonal, organizational and time management skills
- Enthusiastic and motivated to work in a high-paced, changing environment
- SAP experience would be an asset, but training will be provided
