IT Security Analyst
Job Description:
Client Information:
Our client is a leading North American natural gas producer and a technical and cost leader in the in-situ recovery of oil sands bitumen.
- Among the largest holders of oil and gas resource lands in onshore North America

- A technical and cost leader in in-situ recovery of oil sands bitumen
- Approximately 6,500 staff
Objective/Project
This position is responsible for day to day operational support and projects as required to secure our clients perimeter. This is a hands on technical position responsible for implementing and maintaining perimeter security solutions. Perimeter security job functions include administration/support of firewalls, Intrusion Prevention Systems, remote access solutions, Internet Caching, content filtering, business partner/internet connections and DNS (DNS = External Websites) support.
SSL VPN, NAC, UTM (unified threat management) Projects
Line of 3:
- Firewall / security (Checkpoint) Ideally
- Cisco Switches & Routers
- IPS – tipping & juniper (strong nice to have)
- Scripting & Pearl (strong nice to have)
Deliverables, Tasks and Duties
- Day to Day support of all external connections to the corporate network. This includes international locations.
- Evaluation and implementation of perimeter security products.
- Documentation of current and new perimeter security implementations.
- Provide rotational on-call after hour support 7x24x365 as well as implement changes outside of core business hours.
Required Technical Skills
- 5 – 8 Years Technical Hands On / Operational IT Security Experience
- Must have good verbal and written communication skills
- Must be motivated and eager to take on new tasks
- Must have experience with Cisco equipment and Checkpoint NGX software.
- Experience with Security Information Management (SIM/SEM) servers.
- Understanding of security terminology and concepts.
- Experience with VPN’s, Cisco routers/switches, Internet caching, Intrusion Prevention Systems, Security tools, NAC and security consoles is desired.
- General working knowledge of Solaris and Red Hat (RHEL)
- Experience with shell scripting and Perl scripting
Important Notes:
- On call: weekly rotations, typically 1-2 calls/week. They are required to have there own cell (structured re-imbursement). Are paid extra for on call if over 2hrs of work.
- Someone with strong Cisco experience or Juniper & Juniper with PIX is also applicable as oppose to Checkpoint
- This individual will not require design experience but will typically have it
- IPtel rollout project upcoming too, VOIP/wireless is an asset
- This person is working in a 6 person team, supporting 6500 users, and 500 sites, and 4 different corporate internets
