Geologist - Oil Sands
Reporting to the Oil Sands Geoscience Lead, this Geologist will be responsible for evaluating existing landholdings and making recommendations on land sales and acquisition opportunities.
Key responsibilities of this position are:
- Ability to independently develop a sound stratigraphic and facies interpretation.
- Evaluating existing landholdings and making recommendations on oil sands land sales and acquisition opportunities.
- Planning, implementing and expediting stratigraphic drilling programs.
- Development of applications for submission to regulators.
- Understanding and communicating the depositional environments, the lateral changes in facies and reservoir properties, and assessing how these could potentially impact extraction operations.
- Completing integration of geological and geophysical concepts/maps.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will ideally have:
- A BSc or MSc in Geology.
- Minimum 5 years of experience, of which some years are in Oil Sands.
- Professional Geologist (P.Geol) status with APEGGA.
- Strong understanding of Oil Sands core and log analysis.
- Experience logging clastic core.
- Previous work experience in the Clearwater Formation.
- Strong background in reservoir characterization and volumetric evaluations.
- Expertise in clastic facies interpretation and development of depositional models.
- A background in building geological models using computer applications.
- Strong interpersonal and team motivational skills.
- Previous thermal experience would be an asset.
- Well-developed organizational and presentation skills.
