Senior Sedimentologist Oil Sands Exploration
Job description
We are creating a team in Canada that draws on local knowledge and expertise needed to operate in Alberta’s oilsands, while utilizing the Group’s international experience.
 
We have big expansion plans for our Alberta operations. Along with big plans, comes big opportunity. You will play a crucial role in achieving our goal of becoming a leading producer in the Alberta oilsands.
 
ACTIVITY
  • Performs the evaluation and synthesis of geological data from TEPC exploration and development leases, and all other public domain data in Athabasca Oil Sand Province:
  • Conducts and supervises sedimentological and stratigraphic interpretation based on log and core date; validate and propagate stratigraphic correlations.
  • Update the Athabasca regional syntheses, based on the newly released information and participates in the evaluation of new exploration acreage. Supervise the creation of regional maps based on the updated database.
  • Recommends exploration work programmes (drilling locations, data acquisition and geophysical programmes)
  • Prepares and follows up the exploration winter drilling campaigns and carry-out QL geological interpretation
  • Oversees and supervises core description process by junior geologists ensuring coherent sedimentological and stratigraphic interpretations.
  • Guarantees the quality, consistency and reliability of the geological data in the TEPC Athabasca data base
  • Analyzes, interprets and synthesizes the available geological data within and outside the lease in order to perform a comprehensive evaluation of the area (sedimentology, petrophysics, structural and thickness maps) and estimate the volumes of bitumen in situ and the potential resources.
  • Ensures the proper reporting of the exploration activity (authorities, affiliate, headquarter)
  • Exhibits a high degree of enthusiasm, computer skills and team work.
  • Mentor junior staff in sedimentology and stratigraphy
 Required skills
  • Education :
    • B.Sc in Geology
  • Experience :
    • 10 years+ experience with strong sedimentological and sequence stratigraphic background, integrating and synthesising core and log data - preferably in oil sands exploration
  • Skills :
    • Knowledgeable in the use of geological softwares
    • Highly motivated and self-starter
    • Team player
    • Strong organizational and effective time management skills
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
