Construction Superintendent - Central Processing Facility - Sunrise Oil Sands Project
We are seeking a Construction Superintendent — Oil Processing reporting to the Construction Manager of the Sunrise Oil Sands Project. In this role you will work with a multi-discipline team to ensure the project is constructed in a cost effective manner and within the Company’s Corporate Specifications, Best Practices & Regulatory requirements. You will ensure construction contractors, and other third parties construction activities are performed and meet contractual requirements and obligations while adhering to applicable policies, procedures and safe work practices. You will work directly with other Construction Superintendents to ensure the Oil Processing component of the Central Processing Facility (CPF) is constructed safely, efficiently and on deadline.

- Monitoring the construction contractor’s performance, reporting noted deficiencies or concerns regarding competence and safe work habits to the contractor
- Ensuring adherence to site safety program in the construction of the CPF’s Oil Processing components
- Witnessing and/or verifying completion of required testing and examinations required by the engineering design, issued for construction (IFC) drawings, and Inspection and Test Plan (ITP)
- Coordinating Ground Disturbance activities in accordance with Company requirements, industry codes and regulations
- Ensuring Company Corporate regulatory requirements are adhered to
- Participating in and performing site observations, inspections, and formal audits in accordance with the Company’s Health Safety and Environment (HS&E) policies
- Following and implementing the Company’s communication procedures
- Ensuring construction is in compliance with Sunrise Project engineering design criteria, specifications and applicable regulatory codes
- Ensuring construction cost controls are monitored and project schedules are implemented and followed
- Ensuring contractors submit Change Requests for any work to be completed outside of original project scope or contract capital value (approval is required by the Construction Manager prior to executing the work)
- Performing construction completion reviews and ensuring that contractual documentation is completed
- Ensuring adherence to the Company’s Safety Policies & Procedures on Construction Projects
- Completing Daily Reports, to be submitted to Construction Manager
Qualifications
Our ideal candidate has the following qualifications:
- Degree/diploma/certificate or other technical accreditation in a civil designation would be an asset
- Ground Disturbance-Level II is required
- WHIMIS is required
- Fall Protection Training would be an asset
- H2S Alive is required
- First Aid CPR Certification is mandatory
- Fifteen years of proven, progressive facility construction experience is required
- Five year tenure in leading facility construction sites, crews and projects is required
- Fifteen years in the Oil and Gas industry is required
- Strong knowledge of ERCB/SEM and OH&S regulations, ASME codes and CSA codes is required
- Experience and knowledge of logging and updating Records Management Systems is required
- Complete understanding of HS&E requirements is necessary
- Superior communication, negotiating and people skills is required
- Demonstrated capability of influencing others and resolving conflicts is essential
- Exceptional leadership skills and proven record of motivating others is needed
- Demonstrated ability to work alone and in teams to meet the demanding project objectives within tight cost and schedule targets is required
- Proven experience with a turnover project and executing it in a timely and efficient manner is required
- Due to the nature of this position geographic flexibility is a requirement. This position is based in Calgary, Alberta. Camp-based living will be required approximately 25% of the time.
This position requires working a rotating shift schedule of 10 hour workdays.
This position requires the incumbent to operate a vehicle for which a valid driver’s license is required. The final candidate will be required to provide a recent (ie. issued within previous 4 weeks) original driver’s abstract for a 5 year period, prior to starting work with us, for review by our Health and Safety group.
