Senior Chemist - Oil and Gas

We have the following opening for an Senior Chemist Professional to support our Oils, Gas, and Chemicals division in Burnaby, British Columbia.

Primary Responsibilities
Key Accountabilities include:
  • General technical accountabilities include interpretations, report writing; technical presentations and papers, assisting client services or management with RFPs as well as providing technical directions to client services.
  • Demonstrated experience in classic wet chemistry methodology.
  • Responsible for continuous improvement in production and efficiency and for delivering quality data promptly. Experience with Gas and Liquid Chromatography instrumentation, techniques, and trouble shooting for analysis.
  • Technical expertise in method development and SOP writing/development.
  • Knowledge and experience of sample preparation and extraction techniques.
  •  The practical research and development of new and existing methods, method writing, technical presentations, and approval of completed data.
 
Specific responsibilities
Operations:
  • Conduct petroleum product testing following ASTM procedures to comply with client requests.
  • Ensure test results are accurate by use of equipment calibrations and checks.
  • Compile completed test results in spreadsheets for reporting to client.
  • Convey test results to clients in a timely manner.
  • Perform maintenance and calibration of equipment during non peak use times.
  • Liaise with Laboratory Supervisor and other staff to discuss plans to deal with client work requests.
  • Conduct testing on non petroleum products by ASTM and other approved methods.
  • Organize and clean laboratory work areas to maintain efficiency and safety of tests.
  • Package dangerous goods for shipping as per Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulations.
  • Complete miscellaneous projects that develop in the laboratory.
  • Will manage the Laboratory site as required in the absence of the Laboratory Manager.
  • Quality Control / Assurance
  • Ensures work practices and laboratory analysis are carried out according to established methods, SOPs and those they meet all QC standards and best practices where this is required or appropriate.

Branch and/or Laboratory Manager
 
Skills
  • Minimum qualifications are a Science Degree or Technical diploma, preferably in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering, and five or more years of related experience.
  • Good communication, computer and leadership skills required.
  • On the job training in Standard Operating Procedures for petroleum testing (ASTM, IP etc.) is essential for the Senior Chemist position.
