Community Representative

Shell’s facilities in Canada encompass operations in each of Alberta's three main oil sands deposits, an upgrader, four natural gas processing plants, a chemical manufacturing plant, three refineries, 2 lubricant plants, 19 distribution terminals, and more than 1,600 retail stations across the country. Shell Canada is currently seeking a Community Representative (Klappan)
 
Responsibilities:
The representative will act as a liaison between Shell and the Iskut, Dease Lake and Telegraph Creek communities for all of Shell's activities in the Klappan. They will help communicate Shell’s plans to the communities and obtain input and feedback on any issues or concerns.
 
Specific Responsibilities
  • Provide Shell project updates to community
  • Seek project-related input and feedback from community
  • Coordinate Shell's consultation and communication with community
  • Plan and organize – open houses, meetings with community members, a community newsletter, etc.
  • Represent Shell on local industry-community advisory groups or at relevant local meetings
  • Provide advice and guidance on Shell's community investments
  • Advise Shell of any questions or concerns that the community may have with Shell's plans or operations and work with Shell operations and project personnel to address these questions or concerns
 
Requirements:
  • Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
  • Knowledge of project area and local communities:
  • Knowledgeable about the Klappan area
  • Knowledgeable about Tahltan culture and communities
  • Knowledge of Environmental studies
  • Relational Skills
  • Strong people orientation and interpersonal skills. Personality that puts people at ease and inspires trust and confidence.
  • Ability to identify and include a wide range of community members in communications.
  • Effective listening skills.
  • Ability to accept different points of view and see issues through community eyes as well as from Shell's perspective.
  • Self-starter, able to set own agenda and prioritize and schedule within general role objectives.
  • Able to handle stressful situations, either one-on-one or in group or community meetings without taking criticism personally. 
  • Business/Technical
  • Ability to work across organizational lines throughout the Shell working team to draw on expertise where needed
  • Ability to manage the public consultation components of projects and work effectively as a key member of project teams.
  • Ability to represent community member views to project teams and to negotiate suitable inclusion of community input.  
  • Ability to maintain accurate and complete documentation of contacts and commitments made to the public.
  • Basic Computer skills - Microsoft Word, Outlook
