HR Advisor - Scotford Refinery

Shell’s facilities in Canada encompass operations in each of Alberta's three main oil sands deposits, an upgrader, four natural gas processing plants, a chemical manufacturing plant, three refineries, 2 lubricant plants, 19 distribution terminals, and more than 1,600 retail stations across the country. Shell Canada is currently seeking HR Advisor, for the Scotford Refinery located in Fort Saskatchewan, Edmonton Area.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Reporting to the HR Manager, Scotford Oil and Chemicals, this position is accountable for ensuring assigned client groups are provided with quality HR advice and counsel in support of the business improvement plan and site strategies.
  • Delivering HR generalist support and guidance to managers and employees at the Scotford Refinery and Chemical plant (Scotford Manufacturing).
  • Communicating and implementing HR policies, processes and programs.
  • Supporting business change and management of organizational implications within a non-union environment.
  • Provide coaching, counselling and industrial relations support to develop and maintain high quality, productive working relationships and improve team effectiveness.
  • Conduct site investigations and provide recommendations.
  • Focal for Scotford Manufacturing on leading HR projects, process and system changes including HRIT, Shell People Survey, Performance Management, Process Safety and other Global and Downstream One initiatives.
  • Collaborate with other HR professionals at Shell Scotford and across Downstream Manufacturing in Canada and the Americas regions to delivery on the HR priorities.
  • Actively participate in Global Manufacturing Networks as assigned.
  • Coach and mentor junior HR staff.
 
Additional Information
  • The team consists of 6 direct and 3-shared HR professionals reporting into the HR Manager.
  • Overtime and some travel in North America will be required.
  • Normal office conditions in an operating plant environment.
  • This position is located at Shell Scotford, 15 minutes NE of Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta.
 
Requirements:
  • Must have legal authorization to work for anyone other than current employer.
  • Undergraduate degree in HR, IR or related areas.
  • CHRP (Certified Human Resources Professional) designation would be an asset.
  • Minimum 7 years of broad HR Generalist experience
  • Strong and proven delivery orientation including application of problem solving and decision making techniques.
  • The ability to understand client needs at all levels of the business and translate them into action.
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills.
  • Consulting abilities with a strong customer focus.
  • Analytical and organizational skills, attention to detail, high-energy self-starter that works well with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills - positive attitude.
  • Strong project management skills - demonstrated ability to adhere to multiple deadlines and priorities at a accelerated pace of change.
  • Ability to work effectively in a highly participative and self managed team environment.
  • Energized about learning and professional development.

Scotford consists of three distinct and diverse Downstream businesses (Refinery/Upgrader/Chemicals).
The Scotford Refinery is a 100,000 bpd complex processing synthetic crude plus feedstock from the adjacent Upgrader. The Refinery employs approximately 235 employees with anticipated growth of an additional 75 in staff in 2008.
 
The Scotford Chemical Plant manufactures styrene and glycol (MEG) for a variety of commercial and consumer products.   The Chemical Plant employs approximately 170 employees.
